Jason and Joye began their life together in the summer of 1992 in Dumas, Texas. While Jason dreamt of life as a golf pro, Joye had always desired to be an elementary teacher. They set out in search of their dreams as God began revealing to them His own destiny for their lives.
Jason and Joye were both born into families with strong work ethics and Christian values. When Jason was five years old, his father’s job with an oil company moved his parents, younger sister and himself from Missouri to the north, Texas town of Stinnett where Jason finished his high school years.
Joye was born in Devine, Texas while her father was a high school football coach. Her father’s coaching career spanned from small West Texas high schools all the way to the University of Texas, causing the family to move 17 times during her schooling years. This created a close-knit relationship with her parents and three younger siblings.
After their parents introduced them to each other in 1992, Jason and Joye became close friends and then married. They began their marriage finishing their college careers looking forward to life in teaching and golf. Their futures changed when Jason befriended his college vice-president. He suggested Jason and Joye work for a Salvation Army camp and conference center serving under-privileged children from inner-city San Diego, California.
After returning to Greenville College to finish his degree, Joye became pregnant with their first child. Having a son changed their perspective and it became clear that what was once a memorable and fulfilling experience in San Diego was to be the life they desired for their growing family. This revelation prompted Jason and Joye to pursue a career in Christian Camping. They moved to Vossburg, MS and served as directors of a Christian Retreat Center. While living there, Jason and Joye were able to work together and share ministry and service alongside their children, Hogan and Gracen.
It was in their 9 years serving in Mississippi, that Jason and Joye discovered new paradigms. Jason realized his potential and desire to teach and implement Godly leadership principles into his staff and vision for Christian Camping. He discovered, “Most people believe that leadership is only for a few-only for the people at the top. They have no idea of the opportunities they’re passing up when they don’t learn to lead.” While managing his many duties, he most enjoyed his time with the college kids during the busiest season of the year, the summer. He experienced fulfillment while taking a group of individual students and building them into a team giving of time, energy, service, and leadership and teaching them their destiny in God. Joye’s role began as mom and home school teacher to her young son and daughter but soon expanded to Waterfront Director, Lifeguard Trainer, First Aid and CPR Instructor, Guest Services Coordinator and Director of Christian Education.
In the midst of living the Christian Camping lifestyle, they both gained perspectives about their ministry and roles in life. Their heart desire is to see young adults and children walk in their destiny in God. Joye once said, “Children must see that God desires a passionate relationship with them and that they can move in ministry just like the adults.” It is important to Jason and Joye to see young people as well as their own children walk in intimacy with the Holy Spirit and passion for Jesus which creates a life seeking after righteousness and holiness unto the Lord. They believe their role as a family is to create an atmosphere where each person can meet the Father God on a personal level that will continue to grow beyond their experience at church camp. They want to see young people reach their homes, families, schools, churches, and communities for the Lord. Ministry to the retreat leader is also an important aspect of their calling. Prayer, encouragement and service to guest leaders are goals they strive to accomplish at every opportunity.
Jason and Joye are excited to see how the Lord will lead them and how He will continue to grow them as a family in His love, service, and grace.
